The Inca Jungle is a preferred choice for young people, groups of friends and adventurous families who want to relax by doing sports and, at the same time, visit Machu Picchu. The journey begins in the city of Cusco, from where you will transfer to the ‘Abra Málaga’ for an exciting descent by bike to the village of Santa María, located in the jungle of Cusco. In the afternoon, you will have an exciting canoeing experience. The next day, you will hike to the town of Santa Teresa, famous for its relaxing thermal baths of Cocalmayo. On the third day, you will enjoy a zipline adventure. Then, you will walk to the village of Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu village, where you will spend the night to visit Machu Picchu the next day. This tour includes everything you need to enjoy 4 days of well-organized adventures.

Inca Jungle Expedition to Machu Picchu: 4 Days and 2 Nights

On Day 1, pick-up in Cusco, bike descent to Santa María, rafting on the Vilcanota River, followed by dinner and accommodation in Santa María. On Day 2, hike to Quellumayo for lunch, then continue to Santa Teresa for hot springs, dinner, and accommodation. On Day 3, enjoy ziplining and jungle trekking, have lunch at Hidroeléctrica Station, and then head to Aguas Calientes for optional hot springs, dinner, and accommodation. On Day 4, ascend to Machu Picchu for a guided tour with an option to hike, then return by train to Ollantaytambo and by bus to Cusco, concluding the tour at the hotel.

First Day:

It all starts with the pick up of the tourist at your hotel in Cusco. You will be transported by minivan to the upper part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, known as the ‘Abra Málaga’, from where you can appreciate the whole forest of Cusco. Equipped with bicycles and the necessary security equipment, we will descend several kilometers to reach the village of Santa Maria. During this descent of about 4 hours, we will make a stop for lunch in one of the local villages. Later, we will enjoy the canoeing adventure on the Vilcanota River. Finally, we will reach the village of Santa Maria, where we will have dinner and spend the night in a local lodging.

Second Day:

We will get up early to enjoy a nutritious breakfast. Then, we will begin our hiking trails, first ascending and appreciating the magnitude of the trees and green mountains. We will make a stop in the village of Quellumayo for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will continue our route through beautiful landscapes until we reach the village of Santa Teresa. There, we will relax in the famous thermal baths of Cocalmayo (cost: 10 soles for foreigners and 5 soles for Peruvians). After enjoying the thermal baths, we will have dinner and spend the night in a local hotel in Santa Teresa.

Day 3:

We will get up early for a nutritious breakfast. Then, we will head to the recreation center where we will do the zipline activity. We will continue walking through the landscapes of the forest of Cusco. First, we will follow the route to the hydroelectric station, where we will have lunch. Afterwards, we will continue on the road that will take us to Aguas Calientes. On this day, we will walk about 20 kilometers, surrounded by beautiful vegetation and majestic mountains. In the evening, upon arrival to the town of Aguas Calientes, we will have the option of relaxing in the thermal baths (not included in the tour). We will dine and spend the night in a local hotel in this magical village.

Day 4:

On our last day, we will enjoy a nutritious breakfast to begin the final stretch of ascent to Machu Picchu. The tour includes the bus ride to the entrance of Machu Picchu. However, those tourists who wish to do so can choose not to include this ticket and climb on foot for free (approximately 2 hours of walking). Once there, our tour guide will give us a detailed explanation of this wonder of the world for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Then we will return by bus to Aguas Calientes (optionally you can walk for free) to rest a bit, have lunch (not included in the tour), buy souvenirs and board the Expedition tourist train (optionally Vistadome) that will take us back to Ollantaytambo. Finally, we will transfer by bus back to the city of Cusco, where the tour ends at the door of the visitor’s hotel.

  • Before booking, train schedules may vary based on availability and/or changes by the train company.

  • To book this tour, a minimum of 48 hours is required. The earlier you reserve, the better train schedules and Machu Picchu entry times we can arrange.

  • Fitness Level: Not demanding physically, but good health is required.

  • It’s recommended to carry a lightweight backpack, lightweight clothing, sturdy footwear (for trekking), warm and rainproof clothing depending on the season, sunscreen, your own medical kit with any necessary special medications.
